Dagoth Ur was the hero, who got painted via decades of propaganda, as the villain, by the tribunal. Everything you hear about him is a half-life, drenched in years of indoctrination by the tribunal's followers. Ever wonder why the only people who give a nuanced opinion is the people in the ash wastes? Because the tribunal made sure whoever was sane and normal of the house of Dagoth was driven to the red mountain. They created their own problem and Dagoth deserves to win.

Cyrodil really is the best location in Tamriel for a TES game. Its central location makes it one of the only reasonable places to have multiple different biomes in 1 map, and its diverse population makes it reasonable lore wise to play as any race. Morrowind probably did it second best by specifically making the main character an outlander arriving on a boat, but it still felt weird to play as the nerevarine as anything but a dark elf. Even if it was lore accurste. It's just weird to play skyrim as anything but an imperial, nord, or breton.
